I was bullied severely in Christian school, and reading Joy's account of harassment and the lack of adult intervention validated feelings I have carried for decades. She does not minimize the trauma or rush to forgiveness. She shows the process of getting there, which helped me understand that my anger was justified before I could begin to let it go.

I am a parent of an LGBTQ+ child who grew up in our church, and this book helped me understand what my daughter might be experiencing. The description of living a veiled life, hiding who she really was from people who claimed to love her, broke my heart and made me determined to be a safe person for her to talk to without judgment.
